The Herald-Whig contacted hundreds of area residents, asking them to tell us about heroic, remarkable and inspirational people living among us. This slideshow is based on 34 stories about local people who have worked tirelessly to better the communities in which we live. Some have overcome great obstacles or personal tragedies.
Others witnessed wrongs and have tried to make them right. Still others have volunteered their time for causes they believe to be important. And some have made the most of life’s opportunities. A hero is defined as the central person involved in any remarkable action or event. As you view this collection of portraits of people from all walks of life, and read their stories, we think you will agree there truly are Heroes Among Us.
