The test is designed to measure obedience skills, which can earn the dog the American Kennel Club’s designation of Canine Good Citizen. Many insurance companies require successful completion of the test before homeowners insurance can be obtained.

People waiting for an H1N1 influenza vaccine Tuesday afternoon at the Adams County Health Department form a line extending from the Broadway entrance, south to Sixth Street, and around the corner and across the entire block of Vermont. Julie Shepard, director of health protection, said between 1,500 and 1,600 doses of the injectable vaccine were delivered from 3 to 8:30 p.m., close to 300 vaccines an hour. Shepard isn’t sure when the next shipment of H1N1 vaccine will arrive but emphasizes that the shots are not being given on a walk-in basis. A clinic will be scheduled as soon as a new shipment is received. For updates, including who’s eligible for the vaccines, call the Adams County flu hotline at (217) 277-5900. Starting today, the hotline will go from an automated service to being manned by registered nurses 24 hours a day. In addition to providing information about H1N1 vaccination clinics, the hotline will serve as a place for people to seek advice about when it’s necessary to seek medical treatment if showing signs of flu.
