Steve Bohnstedt joined The Herald-Whig in June 2004. The previous 5 years Bohnstedt lived in the Washington D.C. area freelancing on a regular basis for The Washington Post and The Baltimore Sun. Graduating from Texas A&M in 1989 with a B.S. in photojournalism, Bohnstedt worked as a staff photographer for several newspapers across the country, while freelancing as a commercial photographer for numerous ad agencies and major corporations.
“As a photojournalist, I strive to use photography in the literal Greek sense – “to write with light” – to communicate ideas, capture the essence of events, and make images that reveal the unexpected, instill compassion, and celebrate life. The enjoyment I find in exploring the diversity of people, and sharing their experiences in a visually compelling way, is the essence of my work as a photographer.” - Steve B.
