Since 1983 the McDonald’s/Herald-Whig Classic has been bringing together the best high school girls and boys basketball players from the area. Each year, 40 all-stars come together at Quincy University’s Pepsi Arena to see which state rules supreme.

Thanks to help from the Quincy McDonald’s, owned by the Shierling family, and the Oakley-Lindsay Foundation, all money earned during the Classic is donated to the McDonald’s/Herald-Whig Classic Scholarship at Quincy University. The scholarship goes to student-athletes from the Herald-Whig coverage area. Each year, one male and one female recipient earn a $2,500 scholarship.
